Brushing and Flossing
Regular brushing and flossing after every meal are critical to ensuring healthy teeth and gums throughout your orthodontic treatment. The dentist would help you pick the right toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss for your teeth and orthodontic appliance.
Brushing With Braces
After every meal, it is advised to brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste. Using powered toothbrushes are also advised by orthodontists as it helps increase the cleansing effect. It is recommended to tilt the brush at a 45-degree angle to the gum line while brushing to effectively remove food particles from its surface. Brush your teeth’s chewing surfaces and the inside surface of your front teeth using short, gentle, back-and-forth motions. Pay close attention to the areas around your brackets or other appliances.
Flosssing With Braces
Flossing can ensure that your teeth and braces are clean. It is advised to use dental floss and floss the side of each tooth beneath the gum line to get rid of plaque and food particles. The process may be repeated to floss all parts of the teeth.
